Off the Grid

A residency was offered to me at the Goldwell Open Air Museum in Rhyolite, Nevada, I presented the residency as a collaboration with Richard Vosseller and Craig Colorusso.

The Ghost town of Rhyolite sits nestled between a small mountain range and a deserted gold-mine. The average high temperatures in July are above 100 degrees farenheit, the area receives some of the highest amount of sunlight in the country. It is a place without utilities it is “off the grid”. The focus of the artists will be to use renewable resources by means of solar power generation and wind propulsion to carry out experimentation and to generate self powered mechanisms that activate their work. Renewable energy will permit the work to be kinetic, to illuminate, to create sound, to communicate and be interactive and experiential. Our focus will be simultaneously on making work that is site specific and powered by the natural forces present in the area.

Below are some images of what was created at the residency.
